Microalgae Innovation for Rural Revival in Southeast Spain

Innovation in microalgae-based bioeconomy for rural revitalisation in the Southeast of Spain

or

Detail description

The project focuses on advancing bioeconomy innovation in rural areas of the Southeast through large-scale production of commercially valuable microalgal biomass. Using existing agricultural technology, pilot plants—both saline and freshwater—are being established to cultivate native microalgae species. Laboratory and in situ trials ensure optimal efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The initiative supports sustainable rural development, with funding from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. Key partners include VERACETICS, S.L., IBERMED INGENIERÍA, S.L., and research institutions. The project aims to enhance local economic resilience and environmental sustainability through innovative microalgae cultivation.
