In the national context, but also worldwide, should we increase forest productivity?

This article examines whether forest productivity should be increased at national and global levels, focusing on French and European forests. It notes that woody biomass stocks and forest productivity have grown over the past century, while harvest rates remain below biological growth. The study highlights the rise of the bioeconomy and green economy, driven by climate, energy, and environmental challenges, and the need for renewable resources like woody biomass. It argues that achieving production intensification requires technological innovations and forest management approaches that are sustainable, multifunctional, and adapted to diverse systems.
