Vacuum Bug: The development of a mechanical process adapted to vines that contributes to decrease the number of the leaf hopper (Scaphoideus Titanus).

About project

The "Flavescence dorée" is a disease of an epidemic nature which endangers the European wine-growing regions as it spreads and kills the contaminated vines. The only current way to avoid its expansion is to contain the bug responsible for spreading the disease, the leafhopper. Therefore, the project has three main purposes, aiming to decrease the number of leafhoppers : to develop a mechanical process adapted to vines, to measure the impact of this mechanical process on biodiversity and to evaluate the risk of transportation of the bugs by agricultural machines.
