TECNOTRUF: New technologies in the management of truffle plantations to improve the economic performance of truffle farms.
About project
TECNOTRUF project aims to create an innovative global model for producing and marketing black truffle (Tuber melanosporum) and related services. It focuses on improving truffle plantation management, which combines host trees (mainly Quercus ilex) and truffle fungi, generating significant socio-economic benefits for rural and depopulated areas of Spain. Key objectives include: 1) Technological innovation: Applying the latest scientific advances to optimise production under diverse ecological conditions. 2) Economic and environmental efficiency: Making truffle cultivation viable, competitive, and sustainable. 3) Knowledge and professionalisation: Expanding technical expertise in a sector still in its domestication phase. 4) Resource optimisation: Improving water use, crop profitability, and product quality while mitigating climate change. 5) Marketing innovation: Developing responsible and alternative commercialisation channels for fresh truffles and by-products. 6) Local development: Boosting rural economies in disadvantaged regions through modernisation and integration into the agri-food chain. The project prioritises irrigation management during critical summer periods in Mediterranean climates and aims to enhance decision-making, reduce costs, and ensure environmental sustainability.
