Nutri2Cycle: Sustainability Indicators for Nutrient Recovery in Agriculture
Assessment of nutrient recovery technologies in agriculture using environmental, economic, and social sustainability indicators
or
Detail description
Environmental, economic, and social sustainability indicators for nutrient recovery technologies in agriculture, developed within the EU-funded Nutri2Cycle project (Horizon 2020 grant No 773682). The framework uses Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) and Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) methodology, prioritising impact categories such as climate change, eutrophication, acidification, and resource depletion. Key indicators cover carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycles, with data sources including Ecoinvent, AGRIBALYSE v3.0, IPCC, and Eurostat. Economic assessment focuses on farm profitability using partial equilibrium modelling and subsidy scenarios. Social indicators are based on S-LCA principles, with 74 generic indicators across stakeholder categories. Multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) integrates environmental, economic, and social dimensions for technology ranking. The project applies territorial LCA approaches and aligns with EU and international standards, including PEF3.0, PEFCR, and SDGs.
