Farmer Exchanges Boost Crop Diversification and Local Protein Supply
Farmer-to-farmer exchanges strengthen local protein supply chains and enhance agricultural sustainability
or
Detail description
Livestock and arable farmers collaborate through the DiverIMPACTS project to create local protein crop supply chains, reducing reliance on imported soy and enhancing sustainability. The initiative connects grain farmers growing legumes, cereals, and cover crops with livestock farmers, improving economic resilience and environmental outcomes. Eleven structured exchanges led to increased crop diversification on 8 out of 11 arable farms, demonstrating a scalable model for regional food systems. This Horizon Europe-funded project supports sustainable agriculture across Europe by strengthening local agri-food networks.
