Factsheet: Promoting the production of barley, maize, alfalfa and oilseeds under organic farming practices for animal feed

This Task Force has been set up with the aim of promoting the production of raw materials for the manufacture of locally sourced organic animal feed. There has recently been a sharp rise in demand for animal feed made from certified raw materials. This has led to local production falling short of demand, forcing the processing industry to source supplies from outside Catalonia; a situation that has created uncertainty within a production system where local sourcing may become a requirement. For this reason, most feed companies consider it a strategic priority to promote the local production of crops such as cereals (barley, wheat, etc.), legumes (vetch, etc.) or oilseeds (rapeseed, soya, etc.). Organic producers need to improve their production processes and introduce new technologies and innovations to remain competitive. This Operational Group has been established within this framework, with the aim of promoting the production of raw materials for the production of locally sourced organic feed. In this regard, the Group is led by NUTREX PINSOS S.L., a company specialising in the manufacture of animal feed, with an increasingly significant client base of organic livestock farmers.
