The TIP TOP project develops participatory modelling tools to assess and optimise diffuse flows of nutrients, contaminants, and bacteria in agricultural catchments across Rhône-Alpes. Focused on three experimental sites—Aiguebellette Lake (30 km²), Val de Méaudre (20 km²), and Miribel plateau (15 km²)—it integrates scientific and local knowledge to build spatialised multi-agent models. These models simulate element transfer (nitrogen, phosphorus, carbon, soil particles) and assess impacts on water resources and biodiversity. The project supports the agro-ecological transition by optimising placement of agro-ecological infrastructure, validating models with field data, and fostering participatory governance. Key outputs include a regional handbook, a documentary film, pedagogical modules for engineers and PhD students, and a configurable landscape simulator for scenario analysis. The project advances regional references and equitable planning by involving farmers, researchers, and planners in co-designing solutions for sustainable land management.
