The Setos Task Force: adapting agriculture to climate change in Murcia

Over the past two years, the Setos Task Force has been running an initiative on farms in the Murcia region to demonstrate that hedgerows planted with selected species improve crop yields, provide protection against water and runoff, and promote pollination and pest control. The initiative, led by the Association of Naturalists of the South-East, IMIDA, CEVAS, farmers and the Arco Sur Irrigation Community, has planted over 28,000 specimens of 60 species across more than 15 km. The project highlights the multifunctionality of hedgerows as a strategy for adapting to climate change, with a focus on the conservation of pollinators, natural enemies of pests and the reduction of soil erosion. Funded by the European Union’s LIFE programme.
