El reto de conocer el contenido en carbono de los suelos agrícolas españoles
Soil carbon sequestration assessment across 16,000 plots supports Spain's climate and agricultural sustainability goals
or
Detail description
Soil carbon sequestration initiative across 16,000 Spanish agricultural plots assesses carbon content to support climate goals under the Common Agricultural Policy and EU Green Deal. Part of the 2023–2027 PAC strategy, the project uses data from 128,000 soil samples and the 30-year ESYRCÉ survey to inform the PNIEC’s 1% annual sequestration target by 2030. Focused on practices like cover cropping, crop rotation, and reduced tillage, the study highlights Mediterranean soil potential and aligns with the 2023 Soil Health Law and LUCAS. Results expected by summer 2024, supporting climate resilience, biodiversity, and sustainable farming.
