Red de Espacios Test Agroforestales (RETA): Proyecto de transición agrícola 2018–2020

Supporting new farmers through agroforestry test spaces in Spain

or

Detail description

RETA is a 2018–2020 Spanish rural development initiative supporting generational transition in agriculture through agroforestry test spaces. Funded under submeasure 16.1, it targets new entrants, especially youth and women, in Extremadura and Catalonia. Coordinated by AmaTerra with partners including ARIC, REDEX, COOPRADO, and academic institutions, the project developed a methodological guide, delivered online workshops, and piloted sites in Cáceres and Terra Alta. It addresses barriers like bureaucracy and lack of funding, promoting sustainable, locally focused food systems. Outcomes include a roadmap for test spaces, expert support tools, and a regional network, enhancing territorial conservation and rural employment. The initiative is modelled on the European Focal Group’s 2018 framework and is transferable to similar regions.
