Vertically placed bifacial solar panels as windbreaks

Vertically oriented bifacial solar panels act as effective windbreaks in open areas, reducing wind speed and altering wind direction to create protected microclimates. These panels also generate renewable energy, offering dual functionality for agriculture and outdoor applications. Optimal performance depends on proper height, spacing, and north-south orientation to maximize energy production and wind protection. The HyPerFarm project investigates these configurations, supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme.
