MOVING Project – Honey value chain vulnerabilities in Slovak Carpathians

Supporting sustainable beekeeping in the Slovak Carpathians through landscape planning and policy integration

or

Detail description

Honey value chain in the Slovak Carpathians faces threats from climate change, including drought, heavy rainfall, and heatwaves, reducing forage quality and quantity. Poor bee nutrition increases disease and parasite risks, while biodiversity loss from declining meadows and pastures worsens the situation. Inflation and misinformation drive demand for cheaper, non-local honey. Solutions include landscape planning for water retention and plant diversity, integrated agricultural policies, regional branding, direct sales, and education to strengthen trust and demand for high-quality local honey.
