MOVING Project: Resilience of Chestnut Flour in Apuan Alps

The MOVING project supports sustainable mountain value chains across Europe, including the chestnut flour value chain in Alta Versilia, Tuscany. This case study examines threats like climate change, demographic decline, land fragmentation, pests, and loss of traditional knowledge. Through stakeholder workshops, the project identifies resilience strategies such as strengthening the Natural Geopark’s governance, improving subsidy distribution, enhancing knowledge transfer, increasing youth involvement, and promoting biodiversity-friendly farming. These actions aim to preserve the region’s socio-cultural and economic heritage while ensuring long-term sustainability.
