The reality on the ground: evaluating pesticide effects under multiple exposure conditions
This paper examines methods developed by UMT PrADE to evaluate the effects of pesticide mixtures on honey bee colony health under real-world exposure scenarios, highlighting the complexity of field diagnostics and presenting tools and reference indicators to improve intoxication detection in apiaries.

Descriere detaliată
Honey bee colonies face complex pesticide exposures in real-world apiaries, making intoxication diagnosis challenging. This study outlines how UMT PrADE researchers shifted from controlled laboratory tests to applied, field-oriented approaches that account for multiple exposure factors. The team has designed diagnostic methods and tools, as well as reference indicators, to define ‘‘normal’’ colony health and detect anomalies linked to mixed pesticide stress. By integrating toxicological, epidemiological, and field-survey data, the work aims to bridge the gap between controlled experiments and the heterogeneous conditions encountered by beekeepers, thereby improving the accuracy of pesticide impact assessments in situ.
