Through this solution, two products are obtained, fundamentally, biochar and syngas. By burning the syngas, steam could be generated to dry the biomass. The biochar, which is the solid fraction, gathers CO2 for hundreds of years (around 2 -2,5 tCO2 per biochar ton) and therefore it is recognised by the CRCF legislation as one of the technologies to capture CO2. The carbon credits obtained can be, for the moment, sold in the voluntary CO2 market. The biochar has many applications, the most usual is to improve soil quality as agricultural amendment but it can be used for many other things (water filters, construction materials, medical, etc.).
