SOSAgro: a consortium to pilot agroecological livestock systems while reducing oxidative stress

The article presents SOSAgro, an interdisciplinary consortium of public and private stakeholders aiming to pilot oxidative stress in agroecological livestock systems. It reviews the role of oxidative stress in animal production, health, and welfare, and highlights emerging challenges from agroecological practices such as free-range access, variable feed resources, and reduced inputs under climate change. The authors propose monitoring redox status as a central biomarker to assess animals’ capacity to respond to stressors, and identify potential levers for intervention. Through scientific workshops and stakeholder seminars, the consortium offers perspectives on managing oxidative stress to support the agroecological transition in livestock farming.
