Using TypTerres Soil Typologies to Improve Agronomic Advice

The IDTypTerres project developed agronomic soil typologies (TypTerres) and their identification keys, integrating them into decision-support tools and training modules to enhance precision in soil classification for agronomic advisory services.

Detail beschrijving

The aim of the IDTypTerres project was to help designers and users of decision-support tools (DSTs) and soil-dependent models to improve the performance of agronomic advice, using TypTerres agronomic typologies. TypTerres are soil typologies with specific features that make them particularly well-suited to the needs of advisors and farmers in agronomic decision-making. This article explains how the TypTerres units’ identification keys are an essential tool for assisting users. The application programming interface and other tools developed during the project to help users choose the adequate soil type are presented. A summary of tests on the integration of TypTerres typologies into DSTs, based on two tools and a model for managing nitrogen fertilisation as well as feedback from students, pursuing a two-year technical degree in agriculture, on the integration of agronomic soil typologies into training are then presented, followed by a discussion of prospects for future uses.
