Genotype x Environment x Management Interactions in Variety Evaluation for Registration: Review of Actions Undertaken

This paper reviews the initiatives of the French CTPS networks to improve experimental environment characterization and develop analytical tools for exploiting genotype x environment x management interactions in the registration process of new crop varieties.

Detail beschrijving

This study presents the evolution of evaluation protocols by the Comité Technique Permanent de la Sélection (CTPS) to integrate Genotype x Environment x Management Interactions (GxExM) into the variety registration process. The authors outline current tools for environmental covariate collection in VATE trials, highlight gaps in describing abiotic and biotic stress factors, and propose enhanced phenological and yield component measurements. They then discuss modelling approaches for interpreting GxExM interactions and illustrate ongoing improvements within CTPS networks. Finally, the paper explores how these enriched interaction outputs can be incorporated into regulatory criteria to guide optimal variety choice under diverse agro-environmental conditions.
