Vegetable Peel Residues – Onion

Management of agricultural residues

of

Detail beschrijving

More than 1.6 million tons of vegetable and fruit waste are generated in Poland annually, with peelings from processing industries constituting a significant share. The increasing scale of agri-food processing, particularly mechanical onion peeling, has intensified the challenge of managing onion peel waste. Direct application of onion peel waste to soil remains the simplest and least expensive disposal method for many farmers as further processing is often limited by a lack of resources and equipment. The described solution introduces an innovative onion-peeling technology that enables direct peeling without prior size sorting. By simplifying processing lines, reducing labour requirements, and improving operational efficiency, the technology delivers significant economic and environmental benefits.
