Detail beschrijving

Phosphonic acid (H₃PO₃, PA) is a fungicidal compound used in conventional crop production to control diseases like Phytophthora and root rot. It enhances plant health by boosting immunity, improving nutrient uptake, and increasing resistance to drought and stress. The compound also supports energy production and extends product shelf life through surface treatment. Used as a disinfectant in cleaning agents, phosphonic acid is not permitted in organic agriculture. It may be present in imported foods such as ginger, avocados, citrus fruits, passion fruits, grapes, apples, nuts, and seeds. Its salts, including aluminum and potassium phosphonates, are water-soluble and commonly used in crop protection and bio-stimulant formulations. Detection requires specific single-residue methods with a typical LOQ of 0.01 mg/kg. Phosphonic acid is not included in standard multi-residue analyses via LC-MS or GC-MS. European regulations (834/2018, 1165/2021) prohibit its use in organic products, and no instances have been detected in organic imports to date.
