Dit project richt zich op de implementatie van Controlled Traffic Farming (CTF) op middelgrote biologische en conventionele boerderijen om voordelen zoals het voorkomen van bodemstructuurbederf en compactie te realiseren. Door vaste rijpaden te creëren tussen teeltbedden, worden optimale groeicondities gecreëerd voor bodemleven en plantwortels, wat resulteert in verbeterde infiltratie- en waterbergingscapaciteit. Het project begeleidt drie biologische boerderijen en een conventionele aardappelteler bij de implementatie van CTF. Er worden SWOT-analyses en implementatieplannen op bedrijfsniveau opgesteld voor elk geval, waarbij zowel literatuurkennis als praktijkvoorbeelden worden onderzocht. Daarnaast omvat het project bezoeken aan buitenlandse boerderijen met CTF. De ervaringen van de cases en verzamelde kennis worden gedeeld via een verslag, demonstraties, netwerkmomenten en publicaties in de landbouwpers. Geïdentificeerde knelpunten zullen worden voorgelegd aan constructeurs en onderzoekers voor verdere ontwikkeling, met een gepland rondetafelgesprek om deze uitdagingen te bespreken.

This project focuses on supporting farmers in implementing Controlled Traffic Farming (CTF) on their specific farms to reap its proven benefits. CTF helps prevent soil compaction, enhances soil structure, promotes optimal growing conditions for roots and soil life, and improves water storage capacity. While CTF is particularly advantageous for organic farming, challenges like lock-ins hinder its widespread adoption, especially on medium-sized farms. The project will work with three medium-sized organic farms and one conventional potato grower to develop SWOT analyses and CTF implementation plans tailored to their needs. By leveraging literature, existing knowledge, and on-farm experiences, the project aims to create a comprehensive report synthesizing the outcomes to inspire and educate other farmers. Additionally, the project plans to organize a foreign visit to observe CTF implementation elsewhere, host demonstration events, networking meetings, and publish findings in agricultural media. Addressing lock-ins, the project will engage with technology firms and research institutions through round table discussions to highlight challenges and opportunities for further research and development in CTF implementation.
