Launched in 2010, the EcoViti project aimed to devise and validate a methodology using expert knowledge to design innovative viticulture systems with minimal pesticide inputs while maintaining yield and profitability. The approach is structured as a ‘prototyping loop’—defining objectives and constraints, creating theoretical system prototypes, conducting field experiments across a network of platforms in major French wine regions, evaluating outcomes, and iteratively refining designs. Key outputs include a conceptual agro‐system model (CmA Viti) and viticulture‐specific design tools. Initial results reveal that these prototyped systems achieve satisfactory agronomic and economic performance alongside reduced phytosanitary usage, supporting a shift toward sustainable low‐input viticulture.
