Detail description

This practice abstract highlights the importance of soil fertility management for improving grass production and supporting productive livestock systems.

Regular soil testing allows farmers to assess soil pH, phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) status and make informed decisions on fertiliser application. Optimising soil pH through liming improves nutrient availability, nutrient use efficiency, biological activity and soil structure.

The targeted application of organic manures and fertilisers based on soil test results helps maximise nutrient use efficiency, improve grass growth and reduce unnecessary nutrient inputs. Regular soil monitoring supports more sustainable and resilient farming systems.
