European Land Access and Farming Renewal Forum 2023

Land access, soil health, and generational renewal in EU agriculture

or

Detail description

Access to land is the primary barrier for young farmers in the EU, with land tenure insecurity, lack of credit, and low sectoral attractiveness hindering generational renewal. Organised by ECVC on 30 October 2023, the event brought together EU institutions, farmer groups, and civil society to stress the urgent need for a European Land Directive. Speakers from the European Parliament, Commission, EESC, FIAN, CEJA, and regional bodies like Brittany highlighted that land regulation is essential for food sovereignty, climate resilience, biodiversity, and human rights in agriculture. The event reinforced the mandate from the European Parliament’s INI report and called for immediate EU action to ensure long-term land access, soil health, and sustainable farming.
