Cotton Byproduct Valorization

From Field Waste to High-Value Bio-Resources

or

Detail description

The PRIMARY project presents a circular approach for the valorization of cotton cultivation residues in South-East Europe. Instead of being burned or left unused, cotton by-products such as stalks, branches, and leaves are treated as valuable raw materials for energy, materials, and bio-based applications. Through a cascading processing model, these residues are converted into biomass pellets, renewable energy, biochar, and innovative bio-based products. The pilot implementation in Karditsa, Greece, demonstrates how agricultural waste can be efficiently managed and reintegrated into the value chain. This approach aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve resource efficiency, and create new opportunities for rural stakeholders within the bioeconomy.
