Guide to Straw Cultivation: Introduction

Strip cropping is a cultivation method in which several crops are grown side by side on a single plot in long, narrow strips. Within strip cropping systems, there is considerable variation in how this method is applied. It is also possible to vary the number of crops grown together in strip cropping. A key feature of strip cropping is that the strips and crops can be managed independently of one another, often using existing machinery. As there is considerable flexibility in the design of strip cropping systems, this method of cultivation can be used in both organic and conventional farming.
