Drone-Based Sheep Counting in Pastures Using AI

ICAERUS prototype using drone video, YOLOv8 and object tracking for livestock monitoring

Detail description

This video presents an ICAERUS prototype for drone-based livestock monitoring.

Drone-captured videos were used to count sheep grazing in pastures more efficiently. The prototype applies artificial intelligence tools to detect, track and count individual animals in the video footage.

The workflow uses YOLOv8 for sheep detection, Bytrack for tracking each animal, and Supervision from Roboflow to create the visual counter.

The contribution is relevant for livestock farmers, advisors, researchers, technology providers and rural innovation actors interested in digital tools for animal monitoring.
