Towards input-efficient systems: what pathways and what support for arable farmers?
Agronomic Innovations 8 (2010), 105–119
Detail description
How can we meet expectations regarding a reduction in the use of inputs? In arable farming, some farmers and advisers have already developed new practices aimed at achieving such a reduction. Interviews with farmers in three arable farming regions (Eure, Indre and Oise) and action-oriented training carried out with advisers from Chambers of Agriculture as part of the joint technology network ‘innovative cropping systems’ ’ have enabled us to characterise the diversity of changes being implemented on farms, the accompanying learning processes for farmers, and the evolving role of advisers. The creation of spaces for exchange and experimentation is a key resource that enables all parties to reduce the practical, cognitive and social uncertainties they face.
