InraPorc®, EvaPig®: models and software to optimise pig nutrition and reduce waste
Agronomic Innovations 12 (2011), 87–96
Detail description
In recent years, pig nutrition has undergone significant changes. In terms of methodology, three new systems for assessing the nutritional value of feed have been developed: net energy, standardised ileal digestibility of amino acids and digestible phosphorus, and these have been incorporated into a computer programme, Evapig®. As regards the animals’ nutritional requirements, the average recommendations have been replaced by a computer-based decision-support tool, InraPorc®, which allows for better consideration of the specific conditions of each production system or individual farm. These developments represent major assets for adapting feeding strategies, with minimal risk and at the lowest possible cost, to the new requirements arising from societal demands, particularly those relating to the environment and animal welfare.
