Inno’vin Living Lab: Digital Futures for French Viticulture 2031

Supporting digital transformation in French viticulture through scenario-based policy analysis for 2031

Detail description

This policy brief presents findings from the Inno’vin Living Lab in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France, examining the future of French viticulture in 2031 through two digitalisation scenarios: 'better not best' (BnB) and 'worse not worst' (WnW). The BnB scenario envisions effective digital training and data management, while WnW anticipates limited access and a growing digital divide. Based on stakeholder workshops using the STEEP methodology, five policy recommendations are proposed to support digital transition in the wine sector. The study highlights challenges such as an aging workforce, unequal technology access, and weak data infrastructure. It underscores the need for public policy in funding, legislation, and training to ensure climate resilience, carbon neutrality, and equitable innovation. Conducted in February 2022 under EU Grant No. 818194 as part of the DESIRA project, the research supports agro-ecological transition and strengthens the wine value chain through digitalisation.
