European Union CAP and Pesticide Policies on Biodiversity and Bee Health
Policy engagement on pesticide risks, pollinator health, and CAP reforms in the EU, UK, and Switzerland
or
Detail description
The European Union's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and its 2021-2027 Strategic Plans aim to strengthen environmental ambitions, particularly in reducing pesticide use and protecting biodiversity. The Sustainable Use of Pesticides Directive (SUPD) drives national action plans to mitigate pesticide risks and promote Integrated Pest Management. PoshBee contributes critical research on multiple stressors affecting bees, including chemical exposure, and develops novel proteomics tools for monitoring bee health. Findings inform the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2030, the Farm to Fork Strategy, and the EU Pollinators Initiative (EPI), supporting policy revisions in the CAP and national strategies. In Switzerland, PoshBee outputs align with the Plant Protection Product Ordinance and national action plans on pesticide reduction. In the UK, deliverables support the National Pollinator Strategy, the 25-Year Environment Plan, and the new Environmental Land Management Scheme. PoshBee’s policy briefings on multiple stressors, mitigation options, and advanced monitoring tools are tailored for EU, UK, Swiss, and international policy engagement, including IPBES and the CBD. Outputs are translated and adapted for diverse stakeholders to ensure uptake across national and regional policy frameworks.
