Digitalization of vegetable irrigation - decision support for efficient use of water and good crop quality
Smart irrigation advice helps Slovenian vegetable growers use less water, reduce costs and protect crop quality through real‑time soil data and tailored recommendations.
Detail description
Irrigation in Slovenia is often done without good information. Many farmers water too much or too late. This wastes water and nutrients and can harm crop quality.
The IRRIGEN system helps solve this.
How it works:
Sensors measure soil moisture and temperature in the field.
Data is sent to a central system several times a day.
The system uses weather forecasts, plant growth stage and soil type.
Farmers receive clear irrigation advice on their phone or computer.
Benefits:
Better timing of irrigation
Less water use and lower costs
Healthier crops
More sustainable farming as water becomes scarcer
IRRIGEN supports farmers in making smart, efficient irrigation decisions.
