Agri-poultry symbiosis: modernisation through digitalisation and the circular economy

SIMBAV is a supra-regional operational group focused on modernizing and enhancing the competitiveness of the poultry sector through efficient resource management. The initiative emphasizes three key areas: valorizing poultry litter and agricultural waste like vineyard pruning residues for use as biofuels and biofertilizers to recover nutrients and support crop production; digitalizing production processes to improve animal welfare and reduce energy and water consumption, enabling smart, data-driven decision-making; and implementing circular economy actions to minimize environmental impact. The project, titled 'Agro-poultry symbiosis: modernization through digitalization and circular economy strategies,' is evaluated via Life Cycle Assessment to objectively measure environmental performance and technical-economical viability. Funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (FEADER) and the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, it forms part of the 2023–2027 Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan.
