Low-input high-biodiversity orchard: 10-year results

Ten years of agroforestry experience in low-input, high-biodiversity fruit production systems

or

Detail description

Ten years of practical experience from the BioDiVerger project demonstrate the long-term viability of low-input, high-biodiversity agroforestry orchards in Europe. The project, established as a living laboratory, tested ecological resilience through minimal soil disturbance, diverse species integration, and natural pest management. Results show improved soil health, increased pollinators and beneficial insects, and reduced reliance on fertilisers and pesticides. Stable yields and enhanced ecosystem services highlight the model’s sustainability. Findings support adoption within agroecological frameworks such as Horizon Europe and EIP-AGRI. Technical guidance is provided for practitioners based on real-world monitoring and on-farm observations.
