Agricultural biogas at Champs du Bois farm

Biogas plant converts farm waste into energy and fertiliser, cutting emissions and chemical use

or

Detail description

Economic, agronomic, and climate benefits from converting farm waste into biogas at Champs du Bois, a 230-hectare mixed farm in Orges, Switzerland. The biogas plant processes slurry and manure from cattle and pigs, generating electricity and heat for local communities while producing digestate used as organic fertiliser, cutting mineral fertiliser use by 35%. Supported by Ökostrom Schweiz and the European ClimateFarmDemo initiative, the system reduces methane emissions and enhances resource efficiency, offering a scalable model for sustainable agriculture.
