Faba bean in organic poultry feed: practical use on German farms

Faba bean (Vicia faba L.) is a high-protein, energy-rich legume successfully used in organic poultry feed on German farms. It provides lysine, an essential amino acid missing in cereal-based rations, and can replace or supplement soya without additional processing. Home-grown faba beans improve profit margins compared to selling to compound feed producers. Case studies from two German organic farms show effective integration into GMO-free feed rations, supporting sustainable organic poultry production.
