Soybean silage for organic livestock feed

Soybean silage as a sustainable protein-rich feed in organic crop rotations

or

Detail description

Soybean silage is a sustainable, protein-rich forage alternative to lucerne hay, ideal for organic farming. Harvested at R6/R7 stage, it balances high protein, fibre, and fermentation quality. Earlier harvests (R5/R6) at ~35% dry matter require swathing 24–48 hours prior to chopping. Low anti-nutritional factor varieties and reduced stem diameter through higher seeding rates improve quality. Microbial inoculants enhance fermentation. Supports nitrogen fixation, crop rotation, and controlled weed presence in organic systems. Published 2018 by AIAB (Rome, Italy) under OK-Net Arable. Available in English (USA) and Italian via Organic Eprints.
