Dialeurodes citri, an invasive whitefly introduced to Spain in 1987, became a major pest in persimmon and citrus crops by 2021. Primary damage results from sooty mould growing on honeydew, reducing tree health and fruit quality. In the Mediterranean, three annual generations occur, with the first being most critical for control. Monitoring adult populations enables timely application of paraffinic and citrus oils during early nymphal stages (L1–L2), ideally two weeks after the adult peak—typically late May to early June. Delayed treatment risks uncontrolled infestation, as L3 and L4 nymphs are highly resistant. This organic pest management approach, developed by Ecovalia within the BIOFRUITNET project, supports sustainable citrus production and biodiversity conservation in horticultural systems.
