Well-managed road verges in Kent support biodiversity and ecosystem services, with 3,000 miles of verges providing habitat for pollinators and native flora. Current practices prioritise safety and cost, often cutting grass at inappropriate times, reducing wildflower seed set and leaving clippings in-situ. The Grassification project proposes a 'cut-and-collect' system to increase cutting frequency to at least twice yearly, timed to support pollinators and seed production.
