Spirulina for Sustainable Food and Natural Pigments in Flanders and the Netherlands

Sustainable spirulina cultivation for functional food and natural blue pigments in Flanders and the Netherlands

or

Detail description

Spirulina is cultivated in greenhouses across Flanders and the Netherlands using sustainable methods, supported by POM Oost-Vlaanderen and a network of research and industry partners. The project promotes local production of spirulina for functional foods and natural blue pigments, replacing synthetic dyes. A cost evaluation tool aids business planning, while pilot projects by AgrAqua and partners advance commercial scalability. Funded by the European Regional Development Fund and regional governments, the initiative drives innovation in bio-based food systems with FSC-certified publications.
