Replace temporary grassland with permanent Sulla grassland for improved milk production

Producing high-quality sheep milk with sustainable forage innovation on a family-run farm in central Italy

or

Detail description

Rosati’s farm, a family-run sheep dairy in central Italy, spans 100 hectares with 11 ha permanent and 4 ha temporary grassland. Facing low forage quality, especially in winter, they replaced temporary grass with Sulla coronaria, a perennial legume suited to local clay soils and climate. This two-year transition improved forage yield and quality, boosted milk production per Sarda sheep to 240 liters annually, enhanced profitability, reduced labor and costs, and improved soil health.
