Feeding horses grass in a sustainable way

Grazed grass can meet horses’ nutritional needs if managed correctly. Monitoring pastures and livestock helps to reduce costs, promote animal welfare and limit environmental impact. Maintaining grass at a height of 5–20 cm, avoiding overgrazing, and applying composted manure or potash improves sustainability. Nitrogen fertiliser stimulates grass growth. Mixed grazing with cattle or mowing helps to minimise waste. Regular monitoring of body condition every three months is essential.
