Pasture rotation and sheep genetic selection at Asciano Genetic Center

Pasture rotation and legume consociation in sustainable sheep farming at the Asciano Genetic Center

or

Detail description

The "Centro Genetico Asciano," established in 2001, specializes in genetic selection of indigenous Italian sheep breeds Massese and Comisana. Spanning over 280 hectares, including 30 hectares of irrigated land, the farm employs sustainable practices such as rotational grazing, legume-grass intercropping, and minimal tillage to enhance forage quality and soil health. The center focuses on improving genetic traits for milk yield, reproductive performance, and disease resistance, serving as a research and demonstration site. Annual milk production reaches 180 liters per sheep, with enhanced milk quality and nutritional value.
