Grazing management and regional marketing of organic beef from suckler cows

Sustainable grass-fed beef from alpine pastures in South Tyrol, raised on 50 hectares of organic land with no external feed

or

Detail description

The Schornhof organic farm in Aldein, South Tyrol, raises Grauvieh and Original Braunvieh cattle on 50 hectares using rotational grazing and no external feed. From April to October, animals graze on mown meadows and extensive pastures, with winter feeding limited to homegrown dry hay. The farm produces 'BioBeef' through a short supply chain, marketed regionally by the cooperative 'Bio regionale Mutterkuhhaltung'. This sustainable, silage-free system emphasizes animal welfare, closed-loop farming, and high-quality meat from 16 fattening steers and heifers slaughtered at 10–11 months.
