Precision livestock farming for sustainable, resilient, and profitable extensive systems in native Iberian Avileña–Negra Ibérica cattle farming

or

Detail description

This project advances precision livestock farming for extensive Avileña-Negra Ibérica suckler cow systems, enhancing sustainability, resilience, and profitability. Key innovations include fixed-time artificial insemination, genetic improvement via semen collection, and nutritional optimization. Welfare indicators, carbon footprint assessments, and lifecycle analysis support environmental stewardship. Resilience is strengthened through integrated data on productivity, reproduction, and environmental impact. Funded by the EU’s FEADER and Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, results were shared at technical days in Salamanca and Ávila (Sept 2025), the National Select Breeding Auction, and via media. Fieldwork expanded to Extremadura and La Rioja, with data from sites at 39.050007°N, -6.398727°W, 254.35 m elevation.
