Compartmented continuous grazing for high stocking rate dairy systems

Daily rotation grazing system for high stocking rate dairy farms with optimal grass utilisation and high milk yield

or

Detail description

Compartmented continuous grazing, developed in the Netherlands, enables up to 10 dairy cows per hectare by rotating them daily through six compartments. Each compartment is grazed for 5–6 days, with the sixth used for silage to maximize sward utilization. Grass height is maintained at 8–12 cm to ensure consistent daily regrowth, with supplementation as needed. The system delivers high grazing efficiency, low labour input, and improved milk yield, making it easy to implement on any farm. Field discussions among farmers, scientists, and educators confirmed its effectiveness and practicality.
