Tall fescue and grass mixtures for moorland grassland
Grassland mixtures for moorland farming: a case study from Lower Saxony
or
Detail description
Tall fescue and structured grassland mixtures are being tested as resilient alternatives to German ryegrass on moorland sites. At Torsten Cramer’s farm in Apen, Lower Saxony, various fescue and meadow fescue mixtures were trialed on a ryegrass-insecure high moor site to improve long-term forage productivity. Despite German ryegrass's high yield potential, its poor winter survival limits performance on challenging soils. Tall fescue demonstrates superior persistence and drought recovery, making it a promising option for sustainable grassland management under extreme weather conditions. The farmer prioritizes innovation and site-adapted grass mixtures to optimize yield and quality on moor soils.
