Healthy herb-rich grasslands in the Netherlands

Case study of a biodynamic grassland farm in the Netherlands promoting biodiversity and sustainable dairy production

or

Detail description

Healthy herb-rich grasslands on a 130-hectare organic farm in Sondel, Friesland, Netherlands, supporting 160 dairy cows and 102 young stock through biodynamic practices. The farm uses strip grazing and diverse grass/herb mixes—such as timothy, meadow fescue, and perennial ryegrass—to enhance soil health, biodiversity, and animal wellbeing. Fully biodynamic since 2021, it avoids antibiotics and artificial fertilisers, focusing on sustainable grassland management and long-term ecological resilience.
