The 45-cow dairy farm in Vosges, France, faced declining milk yields (8,200L to 7,200L per cow) from 2014 to 2017 due to climate stress, including drought, heavy rain, and cold springs. Soil conditions (marl and clay) worsened drought impact. To improve resilience, the farm adopted multi-species temporary grasslands using dactyl, fescue, and saintois—reintroduced after 30 years. These mixes extended grazing and improved forage quality, though initial results were mixed. Sainfoin, despite high costs (€300/ha) and a two-year establishment period, enhanced productivity and nutritional value. CAP support reduced concentrate use. The farm aims for organic certification, 8,000L per cow, self-sustained sainfoin seed production, breed adaptation, and infrastructure upgrades. Ongoing challenges include heat stress for plants and livestock, and climate adaptation limits.
